Editing Services

Through my company, American Editing Services, I offer four separate editing services at rates significantly below the market average. My professional belief is that editing should be affordable. Now that an increasing number of authors are self-publishing, writers cannot guarantee the success of their book, and they should not have pay astronomical fees for editing services.

A false assumption that many writers make is that because I am an online presence, I am either too busy or too pricey for their project. I am always interested in hearing about your project and taking on new clients. Don’t be a stranger! If you are interested in my editing services, listed below with their corresponding rates, please send me an email at info@americaneditingservices.com.

Manuscript Critique
This is for writers who want an editor to identify their strengths and weaknesses, or whose manuscripts are still in development.  I review a book in its entirety and provide a page to a few pages of feedback. This feedback includes both content edits and a summary of common stylistic problems present in a manuscript. Here’s an example of a manuscript critique. If you are interested in this editing service, please send me an email at laura@americaneditingservices.com.

Copyediting
This service focuses on the accuracy and eloquence of your manuscript, specifically spelling, punctuation, structure, flow, and logic. I provide in-text edits so you can quickly identify and correct problem areas. These are technical edits, and this service targets clients who want to ensure their manuscript utilizes proper English. General feedback is included. If you are interested in the editing service and/or would like a sample of my copyedits, please email me at laura@americaneditingservices.com.

$4.50 per page
One page is equal to 250 words or less

Content Editing
This service analyzes the broader elements of your manuscript. These can include plot or character development (for fiction), chapter arrangement and cohesion, and the coherence of your over-arching themes. This editing service ultimately targets the excitement and marketability of your manuscript, and I provide a few pages of feedback per chapter. In my professional opinion, content editing is the most vital editing service and the one most overlooked by writers. General feedback is included. If you are interested in the editing service and/or would like a sample of my copyedits, please email me at laura@americaneditingservices.com.

$5.00 per page
One page is equal to 250 words or less

Content Editing and Copyediting
This is a package that provides both content editing and copyediting. Clients will receive both a chapter-by-chapter analysis on the broad elements of their book and in-text edits that resolve technical errors. This service is ideal for writers considering self-publication since they will not receive the rigorous rounds of edits that agents and editors associated with publishing houses give their clients. General feedback is included. If you are interested in the editing service and/or would like a sample of my copyedits, please email me at laura@americaneditingservices.com.

  1. Hey Laura! I have a book that I would be interested in help editing. I am just about finished with my fifth round. I feel like I am not finding enough since I have read it so many times. The only issue I have is that my book is over 90,000 words so it's a lot. It's a full length fantasy fiction novel. I am a student and plan on self published. I don't have the couple thousand it takes to self publish. I would love to know any recommendations!

    1. Hi Taylor, thanks for stopping by! If you are interested in my editing services, but are tight on money, the manuscript critique is definitely the edit you want, since this critique catches the most prevalent problems in your book. If that’s still out of your budget, you can try to get critique partners to review your work. Publishing the book itself is actually free for ebook formats, and there are places that will print and bind your books cheaply. Hope this helps!

  2. I entered your raffle in November and won a a 500 words of free edits. How long is this offer valid? I'd definitely like the edits, but am not sure I'm ready for them yet. Thanks!
